More than 300 arrested during Urban Beach Week in Miami Beach
More than 300 arrested during Urban Beach Week in Miami Beach
"Urban Beach Week". What a JOKE. You ahve to love the positive spin that the authorities try to put on it too. We don't want to offend anyone you know.
Like this at the beginning of the story:
"More than 300 people have been arrested so far during this year's Memorial Day weekend in South Beach, but partygoers were generally better behaved than in the past, police said Sunday."
So you have to think, well damn, 300 is better than last year how many were arrested last year? Right? That's what I was thinking, so I read further, to this wonderful quote:
"Hernandez said 324 arrests were made since Thursday night, mostly for disorderly conduct, disorderly intoxication and misdemeanor drug arrests. Last year there were 140 arrests during the same period."
I'm just a stupid white guy, but even I can tell you that 140 is not more than 324! I can even remember the mathmatical representation of it from my crappy public school education:
324 > 140
And theres even more fuzzy math here:
"About 600 undercover and officers in uniform were on patrol..."
Ok. Then this:
"Last year, about 500 officers, some in riot gear, worked the entertainment district..."
So bythe numbers 600 police this year and we subtract the 500 last year and that means we have...lets see here...oh yeah...100 more police on the street than last year....
Now we take the number of arrests so far this year at 324 and subtract the number of arrests last year at this time. 140, and we get....184!
184 more arrests, with 100 more police on duty, and the police can state with a serious face:
"Hernandez said. ``The behavior of the partygoers is a lot better than in years past.''
That sounds like a lie to me.
